Make sure you take care of your PAN card which is an important document and is always needed to mention for the monetary transactions you do for that it has been made mandatory. As this card is small sized there is possibility of it getting misplaced or lost in the unavoidable circumstances. Chances to lose it are also due to the constant need to carry it wherever you go. That is why chances to lose PAN card are high.
If you misplace or lose your PAN card then the it is definitely a cause of concern and requires immediate step to resolve the issue. Following are the steps you should take in case lose your PAN card:
- Visit any local police station and report for the loss of card through lodging FIR the moment you feel that your card has lost. Depute someone in India to do it on behalf of you in case you are in abroad and can’t visit the country for that purpose immediately.
- Inform the Income tax Department by writing a letter to it to inform about your missing PAN card and in the meantime make a request for sending you a duplicate card in such condition. Don’t forget to attach the copy of FIR which you had filed while submitting such letter.
- Do apply afresh for a new PAN card but still you need to attach the FIR copy besides rest documents while applying for new card.
It is well said that “Prevention is better than cure” which equally apply to care PAN card and various other documents issued by the government. Make sure you do the best attempt to keep your PAN card safe place and use the photocopies if possible to avoid getting your card lost.
